The Nicklaus Course At Bay Point is Finalist
for Golf Inc.’s Renovation of the Year
June 10, 2006 – Panama City Beach, FL – Bay Point
Resort is excited to announce the Nicklaus Course at Bay
Point Resort has been selected as a finalist for Crittenden
Golf Inc.’s 2006 “Renovation of the Year.” This 18-hole
championship golf course opened in September 2005 and was
redesigned by the Nicklaus Design team from North Palm
Beach, Florida.
The “Renovation of the Year” contest is conducted annually
by Crittenden Golf Inc. Golf courses renovated between
January 1 and December 31, 2005, were eligible to
participate in the competition. Finalists were selected by
Golf Inc. Magazine’s panel of golf industry experts. These
expert raters graded courses on criteria such as routing,
playability, maintainability and aesthetics.
“Our goal was to transfer an extremely difficult golf course
into a user-friendly resort course that would encourage
repeat play yet offer enough of a challenge to lure
tournaments to our facility,” said John Hamati, vice
president of resort operations at the Bay Point Resort.
“We’re thrilled at the positive comments and reviews we
received thus far and we’re especially honored to be
recognized by some of the most prominent voices in the golf
industry.”
The Nicklaus Course at Bay Point is located within the
36-hole golf facility at the Bay Point Resort in Panama City
Beach, Florida. This par-72 championship course is the first
Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida and is managed
by Birmingham, Alabama-based Honours Golf Company. The
Nicklaus Course measures more than 7,000 yards with a slope
rating of 143 and a course rating of 75.3. The course offers
a variety of fairways with plateaus and uncharacteristic
elevation changes unique to this region. It features
panoramic views of the Grand Lagoon and St. Andrews Bay and
incorporates the natural terrain of majestic scrub oaks,
Florida pine trees, sandy-white waste areas and salt-water
marshes.
